Description
The time I drove home after touring my college campus still lives on in my memory. I’ll never forget how the road looked vastly different than when I first arrived.
There was an optional trolley ride to explore the city at the end of my visit. Although I yearned to tag along with the other prospective students, my car seemed like a wiser vessel as snowflakes quickly descended all around me. As I hopped into my Honda Fit and carefully made my way across town, I thought I had enough time to make it to the interstate before it became impassable. To my dismay, the road was too slick to turn into the entryway. So, I continued onward, slowly and steadily.
Every breath was a prayer of faith as I trusted the Lord to help me not slide into the car in front of me. Fear gripped my heart, as I wondered what would become of me in these hazardous conditions. I felt alone and helpless. Yet, God guided me through the seemingly white abyss and into the parking lot of a hotel that promised a comfortable night’s stay. After settling into my nice, warm room, I later enjoyed a hearty dinner at the restaurant inside, grateful that I didn’t have to trudge through the snow to get food. Not only did God protect me that day, but He also provided for my needs.
Relinquishing control of a situation may seem as much of a daunting task as driving through a snowstorm. But surrendering our worries to the Lord means that you and I trust Him more than ourselves. No matter what you’re going through, take comfort—for the Bible declares, Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7 NIV).
After two days, the snow finally began to melt. When I glanced out the hotel window and saw cars progressing to their destinations, I knew I was safe to start heading toward my own. Once I brushed the piles of snow off my car, I made the three-hour trek back home—arriving safe and sound.
Whether you’re flying overseas, facing a surgical procedure, or just trying to make it through the day, you can entrust every single one of your concerns to God—knowing they remain safe with Him. What’s troubling your heart today? Like the Apostle Peter, let us also cast our anxieties upon the Lord, for He is always trustworthy.
Father in heaven, the cares of this world are never too much for You. Help us surrender the heavy burdens that constantly weigh us down. And please forgive us when we doubt Your love. We trust You to come through for us in Your faithful timing. In Your Son’s mighty name, we pray. Amen.
