Cedric M. Sharp, the pastor of Bright Star Missionary Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas, remained in custody Thursday, more than a week after he was charged with five counts of rape and later ordered to stay away from his alleged victim.

Give them grace because we still have to wake up and face the world tomorrow,” she continued. “We still have to answer questions we may not have all the answers too. We still have to hold ourselves together in public while breaking down in private. Please move with compassion. Please move with grace. What’s ‘news’ and ‘tea’ for you is reality for someone else.”

Sharp faces 10 to 40 years or life in prison for each count of rape if he is convicted.
