CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Thousands of fans packed into auditoriums, lined up for meet-and-greets and cheered announcements about future seasons as “The Chosen” community gathered for ChosenCon, a multi-day convention that underscored the global reach of the hit drama about the life of Jesus.
For creator and director Dallas Jenkins, the scale of the event, drawing more than 4,500 attendees, marked an opportunity to personally thank an audience whose prayers, support and passion he said helped transform a crowdfunded series into a global phenomenon.
“The thing that makes it huge, I believe, is the passion,” Jenkins told The Christian Post on the red carpet. “It’s not a celebrity thing. I’ve been to fan conventions before where there’s screaming because they see someone. This is different. This is more of an ‘I want a chance to say thank you.’ It’s just a love fest, because we get a chance to say thank you to each other.”
ChosenCon, held this year from Feb. 19–21, offers fans exclusive sneak peeks, cast interactions, worship gatherings and behind-the-scenes discussions centered on the record-breaking series, which has grown from a crowdfunded project into one of the most widely watched faith-based shows in the world.
Unlike traditional entertainment conventions, attendees frequently described ChosenCon to CP as part fan event, part spiritual gathering. According to Jenkins, this dynamic is what has defined the show from its inception in 2017.
“The intensity of the people and their love of God’s Word that has impacted them so greatly, that’s what makes this different,” he said.
The convention comes at a pivotal moment for the series: Jenkins recently wrapped filming Season 6 and is preparing to begin production on Season 7, the show’s planned final season chronicling the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.
That transition, he said, has made the theme of surrender especially personal.
“Season 6 is the living out of what Jesus said: ‘not my will, but yours,’” Jenkins said. “Jesus, God incarnate, expressed that His own will might be to avoid the crucifixion, yet He willingly chose surrender. If He was willing to put Himself through that when He could have gotten out of it, then our problems are much smaller by comparison. I want to follow in His footsteps.”

As “The Chosen” has expanded internationally, Jenkins said the success has coincided with significant personal challenges, something he said is undeniably tied to spiritual warfare.
“Since day one of ‘The Chosen,’ our lives have been 10 times more challenging than they were before,” he said, citing medical crises and family struggles, including his wife, Amanda Jenkins’ ongoing cancer battle following a recent double mastectomy.
“We shared with this 'Chosen' family that she’s right in the midst of extremely challenging experiences as a family in the middle of filming,” he said. “I believe spiritual warfare is real. The enemy does not want this show to succeed. But I also believe God has His hand in it.”
Jenkins stressed that hardship has reinforced dependence on faith, adding that the phrase "God never gives you more than you can handle" is untrue.
“God oftentimes intentionally gives you more than you can handle so that you can lift your hands to Him and say, ‘I need you.’ That’s been this whole experience.”
Actor Jonathan Roumie, who stars as Jesus in the series, told CP that ChosenCon represents the pinnacle of fan gatherings connected to the show and that the overwhelming response from audiences remains humbling, even after nearly a decade of "The Chosen."
“This is the crème de la crème of Chosen fan-related events,” Roumie said. “You get everybody coming to this one. It’s amazing.”
“I can only give glory to God,” he said. “He put me in this position and gave me this opportunity to build on a character that means so much to me as a person. Jesus is the priority in my life, and to share my depiction through the context of the show has been epic for me on so many levels.”
Roumie echoed Jenkins’ comments about challenges during production, particularly while filming Season 6, which covers the crucifixion of Jesus and the events leading up to that pivotal moment.
“Whenever there was an opportunity for something to go wrong, it could and it would,” he said, describing logistical setbacks, filming complications and physical exhaustion during shoots in Italy and elsewhere. “All sorts of stuff caused pain or anxiety or frustration or fatigue.”
Still, he said the difficulties strengthened the cast’s reliance on prayer. When asked by CP about how fans can support the team as filming for Season 7 approaches, Roumie said, “Just keep praying, whatever God puts on a person’s heart. He knows best.”
Beyond fan celebrations, ChosenCon also served as a major announcement platform for the franchise’s future. Speaking to the crowd, Jenkins unveiled a projected timeline for several upcoming projects from 5&2 Studios, signaling an ambitious expansion of “The Chosen” universe through 2027.
Among the announcements:
“The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls” is expected to debut in summer or fall 2026 on Prime Video.
Season 6 of "The Chosen" will premiere its first six episodes exclusively on Prime Video in fall 2026.
The Season 6 finale — described by Jenkins as a “supersized episode” — will receive a global theatrical release in spring 2027 in dozens of languages simultaneously.
Additional projects in development include “Joseph of Egypt,” “The Book of Moses,” and a future series titled “The Way of the Chosen.”
“Season 6 is the biggest season we’ve ever done without a close second,” Jenkins told attendees. "It took the longest to film by far. The visual effects, the translations especially, take at least two to three times longer than any season we’ve ever done.”
“For the first time ever, we’re releasing episodes one to six to streaming and then the finale in theaters in all of these languages at the same time. So the translation takes some time,” he added. “I just ask for your continued grace and patience. It will be worth it, but this is a season that took a lot out of us.”
