Franklin Graham shared the Gospel message with over 89,500 people as part of the two-night Esperanza Lima in Peru over the weekend.
Graham, the son of world-renowned evangelist Billy Graham, shared a series of significant highlights on social media over the weekend.
Providing a recap of Esperanza Lima, Graham wrote: “It was such a privilege to preach the Gospel in Lima tonight at the National Stadium of Peru,” he wrote in an X post on Saturday. “It was packed with 41,000 people and more waiting outside! I told the crowd that I had come to Lima for a reason — and that reason is to share the Truth! Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father, except through Me’ (John 14:6).”
Images accompanying Graham’s Saturday X post show the evangelist speaking to the crowd, attendees raising their hands in the air, a zoomed-out view of the crowd documenting a packed arena, and the crowd attentively listening to his remarks. In an X post on Sunday, Graham said 48,500 people attended the second night of Esperanza Lima.
“We give God all the glory for the thousands who made the most important decision of their lives tonight — to turn from their sins and put their trust in Jesus Christ!” he exclaimed. Images from the second night of Esperanza Lima shared by Graham included a close-up of himself on stage, an aerial view of the packed arena, a view of the crowd from the stage, and a picture of attendees with their eyes closed and hands lifted up.
A statement published by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association on Monday provided additional details about the impact of Esperanza Lima, including Graham’s remarks and examples of attendees coming to Christ. It clarified that Esperanza Lima was originally supposed to be a one-night event, but they added a second night because of the “overwhelmingly positive response from thousands of pastors when the festival was announced.”
“I want you to know tonight that you can have a new life through Jesus Christ, God’s Son,” Graham told the crowd. “The entire world is infected with sin. Without Jesus you have no hope. You cannot save yourself. You cannot forgive yourself. The church cannot save you. Religion cannot save you. Only the blood of Jesus can save you. He is the only way. He came from heaven to this earth to take your sins. He died and shed His blood on the cross for you. Tonight you can put your faith and trust in Him and be saved from your sins and have a new life.”
Oscar Nunez and his pregnant wife, Karina Arcela, were among those who fully embraced the Christian faith after Esperanza Lima. “Sometimes when I pray, I think that God doesn’t listen to me or maybe I don’t know how to pray,” said Nunez. Arcela walked away from the event feeling confident that “God has heard all of my prayers.”
“I used to think that He didn’t forgive me, but today the message has been clear. [Jesus] is my Savior,” she concluded.
A partnership between Graham and 2,300 churches in the Lima area, Esperanza Lima also featured musical performances from the Christian artists Charity Gayle, The Afters, Christine D’Clario and the Jahaziel Band. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association provided 600 free buses to ensure that people who would have otherwise had difficulty accessing the event could attend.
Graham’s travels will continue later this year, with Madrid, Spain, scheduled to host Festival de la Esperanza on May 30–31, and Manchester, England, on Oct. 3 as part of his “God Loves You” tour.
