CCM star Natalie Grant has asked for prayers after a serious fall led to unexpected internal injuries and emergency surgery, according to a health update she shared on social media.
The 54-year-old Grammy-nominated singer said the incident occurred while she was helping move her daughter, Bella, home from college. After packing boxes and loading the car, the family walked to dinner when she tripped on a sidewalk and “took a hard fall.”
“Basically I wiped out,” Grant wrote alongside a photo of herself in a hospital bed.
The artist said what initially seemed like a possible fractured rib quickly escalated into a more serious medical situation. Grant said the fall resulted in a bleeding kidney and a blood clot in her bladder that required surgery.
“But what I thought might be a fractured rib turned into a hospital stay — a serious internal situation,” she wrote, describing the ordeal as “pretty scary.”
“What in the world?! Who trips and falls on a sidewalk and injures a couple organs?!” she wrote.
The mother-of-three said the surgery was successful and expressed gratitude for her medical team, noting that doctors and nurses “moved quickly, cared deeply, and got me through” the situation.
“Thank you Jesus, it went well today, I’m on the mend and will make a full recovery,” Grant added.
Grant, known for hits such as “King of the World” and “Your Great Name,” also asked supporters for prayers as she continues to recover.
“I sure would appreciate your prayers for a quick recovery,” she wrote. “Hug your people. Slow down. And maybe … watch where you’re walking.”
The Nashville resident received an outpouring of support on her post, including comments from worship leader Brooke Ligertwood and artists TobyMac, Michael W. Smith and CeCe Winans.
“So sorry to hear this Natalie. Lifting you up big time … For a complete healing in Jesus name. Love you,” wrote Smith.
“I’m soo grateful you’re okay. Love you,” wrote Winans.
“Glad you are ok Nat, Praise God!” wrote TobyMac.
Grant has received the Gospel Music Association's Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year four consecutive years and recently helped open the Museum of Christian & Gospel Music in downtown Nashville.
In a recent interview with The Christian Post, the “Held” singer reflected on the role Christian music is increasingly playing in secular culture.
"When I started, Christian music was desperate to cross over," she said. "Now we're watching mainstream artists cross into Christian music because the message has changed their lives. You can feel it. People are desperate for hope."
"Scripture talks about a great falling away and a great awakening," she said. "It's happening at the same time. Yes, the world feels dark, but God is still revealing Himself through His people."
That hope, she said, is clearest when she looks at her daughters' generation.
"They're not just doing this because it's their parents' thing," Grant said. "They're hungry for God's presence. You see it in the new worship movements, in artists like Forrest Frank bringing something fresh. It looks different, but the message is the same."
"Sometimes I think, what will the world look like for my kids and grandkids?" she said. "But then I remember: God's Word never changes. The flowers fade, but His Word remains forever."
