On Easter Sunday, "Today" show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie reflected on the hope of Christ's resurrection and the human experience of feeling abandoned two months after the disappearance of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie.

In a video message for Good Shepherd New York church, the 57-year-old Guthrie spoke about the importance of Easter and the promise of a “new life that never ends in death” for those who believe.

“But standing here today, have to tell you, there are moments in which that promise seems irretrievably far away,” Savannah Guthrie stated. “When life itself seems far harder than death.

“These moments of deep disappointment with God, the feeling of utter abandonment,” she continued. “For most of us, there will come a time in our life when these feelings hold sway.”

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Feb. 1 after she failed to attend a virtual church service that morning. She was last seen around 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 31 after having had dinner with her family.

Savannah Guthrie has asked people on Instagram to continue praying for her and her family as authorities continue to search for the missing elderly woman.

During her Easter Sunday message, Savannah Guthrie reflected on how the Son of God assumed human form and, while He was without original sin, experienced human emotions.

“Recently, though, in my own season of trial, I have wondered, I have questioned whether Jesus really ever experienced this particular wound that I feel," she said. "This grievous and uniquely cruel injury of not knowing, of uncertainty and confusion and answers withheld."

“In those darkest moments, I have thought bitterly, and perhaps irreverently, that I have stumbled upon a feeling that Jesus did not know,” the co-anchor added.

She said Jesus knew that His destiny was to die on the cross and sacrifice Himself for the good of mankind, a fate that he tried to tell his disciples, but they didn’t understand. Savannah Guthrie also acknowledged that, while praying in the Garden of Gethsemane before His death, Jesus’ grief was so deep that he shed tears of blood.

“But still, he knew the ending. He knew the plan. There would be suffering, but then resurrection,” the television personality said. “And so I thought he never suffered this excruciating not knowing. It isn't wrong to think such thoughts, to challenge our God with questions.”

Through vulnerability and authenticity comes, the TV host contends, "a portal of revelation, the imparting of truth and wisdom."

"Perhaps this is too dark a message to share on Easter morning, but I have long believed that we miss out on fully celebrating resurrection if we do not acknowledge the feelings of loss, pain and, yes, death," she said. "It is the darkness that makes this morning’s light so magnificent, so blindingly beautiful."

At the conclusion of her message, Savannah Guthrie said that she would close her eyes and “feel the sunshine.”

“I see a bright vision of the day when Heaven and Earth pass away because they are one, on Earth as it is in Heaven," she continued. "When we celebrate today, this is what we celebrate, and I celebrate, too. I still believe. And so I say with conviction, 'Happy Easter.'”

Authorities have yet to name a person of interest or announce an arrest in the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.

In February, investigators released doorbell camera footage that shows a masked man at Nancy Guthrie’s front door on the day of her disappearance. The man in the video appears to be tampering with the camera.

In an interview with NewsNation last month, one of Nancy Guthrie’s neighbors speculated that more than one person might have been involved in the kidnapping.

Earlier this year, Savannah Guthrie announced on her Instagram that she and her family are offering a $1 million reward for any information that leads to the recovery of her mother.
