It was another busy week in the Trump presidency, with several items of note — from defunding sanctuary cities to restarting a government office to help victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants. 

Actions from this week include pauses to Trump's much-anticipated tariff policies and more potential retaliatory actions against states and localities that disregard his policy agenda. The president also made key nominations, including a former pastor, to top positions seeking to promote religious freedom abroad. 

Here are five developments from the Trump administration that unfolded throughout the past week.

In an interview on Fox News Tuesday, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the U.S. Department of Justice is withholding federal funds from the Maine Department of Corrections for allowing the assignment of a trans-identified male prisoner convicted of murdering his parents and the family dog in 2016 to a women's prison. 

The prisoner in question, Andrew Bolcer, is listed as Andrea Bolcer in the Maine Department of Corrections database, which identifies the murderer as a "female" housed at the Maine Correction Center's Women's Center.

Bondi cited the move to withhold $1.5 million from the Maine Department of Corrections as part of the Trump administration's commitment to upholding the biological definition of sex. "We will pull your funding, we will protect women in prison, we will protect women in sports, we will protect women throughout this country," she vowed. 

On his first day in office, Trump signed an executive order titled "Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government" that directs the U.S. Attorney General as well as the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security to "ensure that males are not detained in women's prisons or housed in women's detention centers."

Trump's executive order also ordered the attorney general to "ensure that no Federal funds are expended for any medical procedure, treatment, or drug for the purpose of conforming an inmate's appearance to that of the opposite sex."
