A church in Wisconsin is looking to build 181 senior housing units on its property, with some designated as affordable housing.

Kingdom Faith Fellowship Church, a 250-member congregation in Milwaukee, is working with Scott Crawford Inc. to construct the units for residents ages 55 and older.

Scott Crawford Inc. President Que El-Amin told The Christian Post that his company partnered with the church because he believes “the land offers a lot of serenity and peace" and Kingdom Faith Fellowship Church is "a great partner to work with."

“We have worked with nonprofits, but this is the first church we have partnered with,” said El-Amin. “We are currently working with another church on a similar project, but hope to work with more churches in the future.”

Housing options planned for the project include a one-bedroom unit at 680 square feet, a two-bedroom unit at 1,000 square feet and a three-bedroom unit at 1,350 square feet.

The units on the church property will be divided between 80% market-rate housing and 20% workforce housing, a type of affordable housing aimed at middle-income residents.

Marques Morgan, vice president of acquisitions and development at Scott Crawford, told CP the housing units will feature a “stacked-flat townhouse style design,” with “each unit having [its] own private entry.”

“We are planning to have a fitness room, community room, walking trail and butterfly garden on site for the residents to enjoy,” said Morgan.

“This has always been a part of the vision for the church since its inception in 2007, to help fulfill the church's God-given mandate of ministering to the needs of the community we’re planted in.”

Morgan noted they are still "going through the rezoning process" with the city to secure permission to build the units on the church property.

Creating a residential environment where seniors "can age in place and also have the option of hearing the Gospel and worshipping the Lord within walking distance of their home," Morgan said, "is one great example of reaching souls and fulfilling the Great Commission.”
